The Sports & Physical Education Office (SPEO) is responsible for the development and implementation of the Caraga State University (CSU) sports program through the recruitment and training of varsity athletes to represent State Colleges & Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Mindanao Association of State Colleges Universities Foundation (MASCUF) and Philippine Association of State Universities & Colleges (PASUC) Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Local, Regional & National Games and other prestigious tournaments and invitational games both within and outside the Caraga Region XII.  When requested, SPEO provides advice and service to CSU Athletic League.  Student Sports Clubs, Faculty & Staff sports Clubs and other sports organization in the CSU System.
 

Philosophy
The goal of the Caraga State University (CSU) athletes program is to provide an opportunity for those student-athletes who participate in intercollegiate Sports Competition to maximize their potential in a learning environment which values and enhances self-actualization, competitiveness, discipline, and the ability to make healthy choices and life-long connections. By engaging in a thoughtful, systematic approach to sports, each CSU athlete is encouraged to define a sense of personal responsibility for his/her own behavior and performance as well as the behavior and performance of his/her team.

The University Sports Department of Caraga State University Athletes recognizes a commitment to serve both its student-athletes and the University. Its primary commitment is to provide an opportunity for student-athletes to fully develop their academic and athletic potential. Through practice, training and competition, the department strives to instill in each student-athlete the following:

• Good sportsmanship and personal integrity.
• Loyalty to the group and the ability to foster cooperation with others as a team.
• Appreciation for the benefits of hard work, motivation and perseverance in both winning and losing situations.
• Encourage and support the formation of student, faculty & staff sports clubs.

Pride in accomplishments gained through fair and honest means. A strong athlete program does much to generate pride and enthusiasm in students, alumni, the University as a whole, and the community which the University serves. The public relations, goodwill and service provided by a strong athletes program benefit The Caraga State University of Butuan City in ways which cannot be measured in strictly economic terms. Through its sport program, the University’s accomplishments and academic goals are made known to the public. Based upon this philosophy and with ongoing support from the President and the University Sports Director, the following values, mission statement, vision statement and strategic goals have been established.
